Smiling Thoughts

Please don't let me
sleep, tonight
Curled up in my fortress of solitude
Fleece covers, and threaded tents;
wishing you were here
to guard the southern flank of this castle,
This, palace with no princess.
Alas you've slipped away into the
dark
to the other side of daybreak, where
morning resides
where you remain a jewel on the horizon.

But here I lay; hoping...
that I could still
make you stay.
Here. In safety,
for a while.
So that I'll have the chance to see you smile, without
having to close my eyes.
